New Orleans Roundup

I recently traveled to New Orleans. I truly fell in love with this city! The southern charm surrounds you. As per usual, I ate and drank my way through the weekend. I have to share the details with you because this weekend was so perfect! There were so many recommendations. I tried to hit all the spots. I can’t wait to return to Nola to enjoy more Cajun and Creole fun!

Where to stay:

I stayed at the Intercontinental hotel. Beautiful hotel located in a prime spot. Hotel was quiet, which was nice. Apparently they have a gorgeous rooftop pool, however, it was under construction for renovations in February.

Where to eat:

Cafe Du Monde: This famous eatery has been in existence for years. This cafe is notorious for their beignets: fried dough covered in powered sugar. Don’t be scared of the line, it moves quick. This eatery is open 24/7. Share an order of beignets with your favorite person and order coffees on the side. They only accept cash so make sure you have a $20! Doesn’t get more “New Orleans” than this!

DTB: Located in the Garden District, this new eatery specializes in traditional Louisiana flavors. They put a playful twist on Creole classics. Items to try on the menu: Cornmeal Gnocci, Fried Cornbread(omg the goat cheese creme is to die for!!), Louisiana Rice Bowl, and 48 Hour Short Rib.

Willa Jeans: OMG this place is magical. More casual restaurant, but the local flavors are undeniable. Menu highlights: Frosé, frozen whiskey apple cider, artichoke dip, pimento cheese, bbq shrimp toast, and fried chicken sandwich . Didn’t finish your Frosé after dinner? Ask for a to go cup! 🙂

Parkway Tavern: This was recommended by a local friend. You can locate it off the beaten path. Line moves quick- don’t let it scare you! Famous for their Roast Beef PoBoy. Don’t forget to grab some Paradise Park brews and take a picture of the cute flamingo can!

Where to drink:

LaFitte Blacksmith Shop: Oldest bar in the country! What a cool place to grab some drinks. My favorite spot to people watch. We sat at an outdoor table. Located right on Bourbon Street, I was able to observe many walks of life with a drink in my hand.

Molly’s at the Market: This local Irish bar has a famous frozen Irish coffee. Yes, there is alcohol in it. And yes, it tasted like a Frostie. I can’t recommend this drink enough. I could have drank 10.

Carousel Bar: Check out this classic bar. The bar literally moves like a carousel. A bit difficult to get a seat, but worth the trip. Grab a “Fleur Des Lis” and enjoy the scenery.

Pat O’Briens: Ever hear of a Hurricane? This is where the drink was invented: Fruit punch frozen drink with lots of alcohol. Beware people!! This drink will catch up to you. This bar is very big. They have many small bars on the property. Find the dark bar with champagne sconces. They have a juke box with classics. Play your favorite songs and watch the drinks go down!

Neighborhoods to see:

The Garden District is filled with those beautiful southern mansions that you see on Instagram. Frenchman Street is the location of the famous jazz bars. Every bar has live music with highly talented bands. I suggest bar hoping in this neighborhood. I’ve never experienced something like this before. It was wonderful. The French Quarter is also lovely. Very crowded, especially on Bourbon Street. This is a must. Grab a road soda and walk this neighborhood: Cool vibes, wild people, and so much energy.

I can’t say it enough: I fell in love with New Orleans. It was a fun, charming, vibrant city, with all walks of life. The food is AMAZING! The drinks are strong. The vibe is fun!
